Outtakes From Cappadocia

Explore behind the scenes footage of the incredible, all women team who captured our UTOPIA 22' campaign lead by photographer, Dara Muscat.

Tell us a little about yourself and your creative aesthetic.

Hi everyone, my name is Dara Muscat and I’m the photographer behind s t e e l e 's spring campaign, shot in Cappadocia. I love to create stories. I see a shoot as if it’s a short movie and a model is my main character, to capture a moment when wind and sunlight play with her hair, when she is dreaming about something or having an adventure.

Tell us about the dreamy region of Cappadocia?

Cappadocia is absolutely special, there is no place on earth quite like it. It’s diverse, exotic, and has the most breathtaking nature, amazing people, incredible food, mesmerising sunrises and sunsets. You can travel by car or hike, you can spend weeks there and still won’t see all of it.

Best advice for photographers & teams shooting on the road, abroad ?

Be patient and keep an open mind. Sometimes things go as you plan and sometimes they don’t and that’s ok. It’s up to you how you deal with them and solve those small quests. And yes, always have snacks, water and of course coffee for a team with you.

Most memorable moment of the trip ?

I love Asia for its beautiful chaos, genuine smiles and sweetest fruits, for its simplicity and diversity of living. I love Europe for its traditions, culture and fashion. I adore how geographically close the countries are over there, sharing some great things with each other, as it only takes a couple of hours drive to cross the border sometimes. I love all the places I haven’t visited yet for the experiences and good ideas that are still ahead. I’m planning to travel to Cape Town and Israel soon, totally thrilled to go there!

What did you draw the most inspiration from there?

I love to read travel journals from writers who travelled back in 16-17th centuries. That idea of an adventure when you are about to discover a whole new world for yourself. I wanted the photographs from our shoot to be like postcards of a journey just like in those travel books.
