I started Badlands 8 years ago...

While I was studying design. For me it was organic evolution from keeping scrapbooks filled with collages, drawings and inspiration. These were starting to take over my apartment, and my (now) husband was constantly telling me to stop cutting up my nice magazines! As I was learning graphics at the time, I decided to take everything digital. The name comes from the Terrence Malick film, one of my all time favourites. To me, it represents one of the many amazing pieces of creative work (film, art, design and fashion) that inspired me to forge a career in the industry, and start my blog in the first place.

As a creative director...

I work on a variety of projects. It could be anything from deciding the direction of a still life or editorial shoot for a client, sourcing props and backgrounds for other creative concepts, creating a style guide, branding and graphics for our design clients, consulting for other brands and business, and collaborating through my social channels.

You are constantly searching for new ways to express yourself...

And the different forms and mediums that can take. I always love to change things up and recently begun shooting on film again, in Paris. I used to take film photos and create a lot of collages and watercolours about a decade ago, and I’m finding that things are coming full circle! It’s been nice shooting on film again, as well as experimenting with the way I edit my images and put them together.

I love referencing old films for style inspiration...

Particularly French Nouveau. There are also so many classically stylish women who I admire; Jane Birkin, Lauren Hutton, Joan Didion, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen are amongst a few.

Style Is...

Being able to express your creativity and individuality through the way you dress.

I am happiest when...

I’m relaxed and with my close friends or family, hanging out with my husband, or when I have a good drink and a good book within reach.
